Grant in Action: Celebrating the Friends of the Kittanning Public Library’s Summer Reading Program

When a community grant report lands on our desks, our favorite part is seeing the real-world stories behind the numbers.  We recently received the completed grant report from the Friends of the Kittanning Public Library, and we couldn't be more excited to share the simple, impactful ways they brought their summer reading program to life this year.

Summer reading programs are a staple of our local community, helping kids keep their minds sharp and their love for books alive while school is out.  But keeping a room full of young readers focused and motivated takes thought, energy, and resources.

The Friends of the Kittanning Public Library team used their recent grant funding to focus on the practical details that make a kid's library experience special. The grant money was used directly to purchase healthy snacks and drinks, keeping the children energized and focused.  Of course, reaching a reading goal deserves a celebration.  To reward the kids for their hard work, the library also used the grant money to hand out fun dinosaur-themed prizes.

Our local libraries work tirelessly to create safe, vibrant, and welcoming environments where learning feels like fun rather than a chore.  We are incredibly grateful to the staff and volunteers for their dedication to our community's youth.

The impact of this program was made possible by the Arnold B. & Christine M. Moss Fund and the David C. Kohl Family Fund, both component funds of the Armstrong County Community Foundation.
